“Ape Men” Prove Youngster From Summer “Y” Camp
By the Associated Press.
PORTLAND, Oreg., July 22, – Two boys at the Young Men’s Christian Associated camp at Spirit Lake, on the slopes of Mount St. Helens, believe they were the “apes” which prospectors reported hurled stones at their cabin recently.
One of the boys, Maxwell Pierce, in a letter to his parents, said: “We stumbled onto a trail that led to the miners’ cabin. A couple of them greeted us with revolvers. They told us we were the first ones ever to find their cabin. But the next day they told the rangers of their ‘ape man’ story.”
